128. Choosing a Business Model that Supports your Purpose, Energy, and Long Term Profitability

podcast Sep 02, 2025

When most entrepreneurs start out, they jump right into serving. You have a gift, a skill, or a calling, and the natural instinct is to share it. But here’s the truth: if you don’t consciously choose a business model, you’re essentially building your dream on quicksand.

Your business model is the foundation. It determines not only how you deliver your work, but also whether your business supports your energy, fulfills your purpose, and sustains your life long-term. Let’s dive into why this choice matters and how to make it intentionally.

Why Your Business Model Matters

Think of your business as a puzzle. The pieces, your mission, your clients, your services, your marketing, all need to fit together. But if one of those pieces is from a different box, the picture will never make sense.

That’s what happens when your business model isn’t aligned. You can have the right mission, the right skills, and even the right clients… but if the delivery model doesn’t match, everything feels harder than it should.

Same Outcome, Different Models

Here’s my favorite example: creating a viral reel.

  • Option 1: A coach teaches you how to do it yourself, giving you the frameworks, hooks, and editing tips.

  • Option 2: A social media agency does it for you, taking your content and turning it into polished, scroll-stopping videos.

Both deliver the same outcome. But the client for each model is different. Some want to learn and DIY; others just want to hand it off. And as the business owner, you also need to ask yourself, do you want to teach or do the work for them?

Alignment With Your Energy & Purpose

This is where Human Design comes in. Your energy type and gifts play a huge role in how you’re meant to serve.

  • Are you energized by being hands-on with clients?
  • Do you prefer to create systems that others implement?
  • Or do you thrive in building something bigger than yourself, where a team delivers the work?

Your model should support not just what your clients want, but what you are here to create and sustain.

Think Long-Term

Finally, profitability isn’t just about this month or this year. It’s about building something that lasts. The right business model should support the life you want 5, 10, or 20 years from now, not leave you exhausted or boxed in.

The Takeaway

Your business model isn’t just logistics, it’s strategy, alignment, and legacy. When you choose a model that matches your purpose, honors your energy, and serves your clients, you create a business that can thrive for the long run.

So, what model are you consciously choosing?
